foodland opening 2

- by Hub staff

Those folks down in Grey Highlands will not be deterred by a little snow!

This morning at 9 am the much-anticipated opening of the new Foodland in Markdale was brimming with dignitaries, shoppers and fresh food.

Owner Bill Graham says the new store will have all the services of the “big city” store in Owen Sound to meet the needs of customers from every direction. Grab lunch or dinner from the sushi bar or the hot and cold deli to go - or sit and eat.  There's beer and cider, and a large organic, vegan, and gluten-free section. And on a day when you don't want to face the Markdale traffic, Foodland has a full delivery service, with ordering online or by phone or fax.

Foodland encourages its franchisees to buy as much locally as they can. Fresh produce of course, in season, and West Grey meats, and freezers full of everything Chapman's Ice Cream makes, but specialty items too. Creemore, Ashanti and Ironwood coffees, and Miller Dairy milk and cream in returnable glass bottles.

For those Owen Sounders who are used to picking something up in Markdale on their way home from “down country”, the 24 hour doors will be won't close again until Christmas – the one day a year the store takes a rest.
