On Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at approximately 11:43 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was alerted to barbed wire that had been found by a snowmobiler on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail at Georgian Bluffs marker 113, near Grey Rd. 3, south of Hwy. 21, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The barbed wire had been fastened to a posted stop sign.This is the fourth incident involving barbed wire on OFSC trails and public lands since January 22, 2016.

The leaders of southwestern Ontario municipalities are seeking funding to expand the prosperity base of the region. This includes funding the build of the SWIFT network, a ubiquitous, affordable and an accessible regional ultra-high speed (fibre-based) broadband network. They are also seeking sustainable and more predictable funding from other orders of government for critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, rail and bus transportation, social housing and high speed Intranet.
"Municipalities with large rural areas face particular challenges," said the newly re-acclaimed chair of the Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus, Mayor Randy Hope of Chatham-Kent. "Today, we have made some real progress in addressing them."

The Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus Inc. (WOWC) is a not-for-profit organization representing 15 upper and single tier municipalities in southwestern Ontario with more than three million residents. Its purpose is to enhance the prosperity and overall wellbeing of rural and small urban communities across the region. Caucus members work collectively to influence federal, provincial and municipal legislative, regulatory and program initiatives through advocacy, research and analysis and education. Collectively, the municipalities represent approximately 300 communities, and almost half a million square kilometres of territory, more than 90% of it rural. A rough count indicates that these municipalities administer approximately 25,000 kilometres of roads, more than 3,000 bridges, and about 24,000 culverts.

Due to the extreme cold temperatures expected tonight, the Owen Sound Police Service will be making the public "Barclay Room" of the police building available as an emergency warming station between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
Anyone requiring use of the emergency warming station is asked to come to the front lobby of the Owen Sound Police Service, where they will be directed to the Barclay Room. Serious health problems can result from prolonged exposure to the cold. The most common cold-related problems are hypothermia and frostbite.
