dyersbay-featureBruce Peninsula National Park has received a huge increase in its resources. The Park has become 512 acres bigger, thanks to a generous donation by the Krug family, and the land has been incorporated into ongoing plans to conserve and restore areas within the park. MP Larry Miller, on behalf of the Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced infrastructure investments totalling $15.6 million for several Parks Canada projects across both Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park.

The Krug family came to Bruce County in the 1880s, building a furniture business that helped build Chesley. Bruce Krug was a founding member of the Bruce Trail Club on the peninsula in 1964. From their cottage in Tobermory, he and his brother acquired "sizable acreages" in the north Bruce which they made available for trails, and worked diligently on the hard, physical work of building the Bruce Trail from Tobermory to Dyer's Bay. Incorporating their land into the National Park will continue their legacy of nature preservation.

quench-regThe Owen Sound Water Watchers, a grass roots community group dedicated to the protection of water, and Bayview Public School's Grade 5/6 environmentally concerned students invite you to join in the Owen Sound Quench program.

This is a unique community-based program dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a safe, healthy, easily accessible alternative to purchasing bottled water.

The Marketside Cafe was the first business in Owen Sound to sign up as an official Quench Station, encouraging users to carry reusable water bottles and use the smart phone app to find convenient sources of free water. Look for the Quench decal in the Marketside window and in a growing number of stores and restaurants. The Downtown Improvement Area (DIA) supports the Quench program.

Hon. Reza Moridi
Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities
1ih Floor, 77 Wellesley Street West
Toronto, Ontario M7 A 1N3
Dear Minister Moridi:
With a volatile economy, rural Ontario is looking to your government to help promote small businesses, entrepreneurship and create jobs in our communities.
For over two decades, this support was made possible through the Ontario Self EmploymentBenefit program, known as OSEB. In fact, the OSEB program was a success in my riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, providing financial support and business planning advice to help retrain laid-off workers starting their ownbusiness. Since 2005, as many as 400 constituents in my riding alone went on to start abusiness, and to create new jobs in our region because of this benefit.
The Bleeding Carrot, Dr. Cobbler's Shoes & Swirls and Elsie's Diner, with the latter now employing 18 people, are just a few successful highlights.
