fire-chat-regCHATSWORTH – On Thursday, December 25, 2014 at approximately 2:38 a.m., Grey County OPP responded to a report of a structure fire on the East Back Line in the Township of Chatsworth.

The homeowner was awakened to the sound of audible fire alarms throughout the two-storey structure. The 48-year-old male victim exited the smoke filled house through a second storey window and called 9-1-1 from a neighbour's residence. He was taken to hospital as a precaution and released. His wife, son and daughter were out of town visiting relatives when the incident occurred.

opp-p0lice-july-regularARTEMESIA TOWNSHIP – On December 23, 2014 at 6:20 p.m., the Grey County OPP received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 10, south of Markdale, in Artemesia Township. Officers arrived to find a northbound White Pontiac Montana collided head on with a south bound Blue Volvo station wagon in the southbound lane.

There was one occupant in each vehicle. The driver of the Pontiac Montana, 57-year-old Roberto Diaz Porta of Toronto, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Volvo driver was taken to hospital for assessment of non-life threatening injuries.

OS-Police-Targs-regOwen Sound Police had a steady Tuesday afternoon which included a driver striking a building with his motor vehicle just after 12 noon. The driver had been pulling into a parking spot in front of a local west side restaurant when he became sidetracked by another driver's actions. As a result he inadvertently accelerated and struck a window at the eatery shattering it, although the damage ultimately was minimal.

Police were also called to attend two drug stores where two males had attended and attempted to use a credit card fraudulently in order to purchase gift cards. The suspects who are not from the area did not succeed with their attempts and police continue to investigate.

An Owen Sound male was arrested and charged for assaulting his roommate after having a minor physical altercation involving a cell phone at an eastside residence. The female did not require medical attention and the 25-yr old will attend Owen Sound Court in January in order to answer to the charge of Assault.

Bruce-regTIVERTON – Bruce Power announced today it will participate in an operational safety performance review led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The review will focus on Bruce B, which is recognized internationally for its strong safety and operational performance and was awarded the Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO) award of excellence in recognition of its world-class performance in November.

"I'm honoured we have been chosen to participate in this prestigious international review, where we will share the progress we've made on the Bruce Power site since 2001, and continue to do what nuclear operators do best – focus on sharing best practices and continuous improvement," said Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO, Bruce Power.

On December 21 2014 at approximately 6 pm witnesses were alerted to the sound of a crash. Witnesses then observed a 2007 black Ford F-150 drive into a fence, not once but twice.

Police were called to the West side location and investigated a 37- -year-old Owen Sound male who had driven into a fence and hit a parked vehicle. As a result, the male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Subsequent breath samples revealed that the accused had 4 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The accused was given a January 8, 2015 court date.
