Municipal Council has partnered with Transition Meaford to offer a one-year pilot program to collect expanded polystyrene for recycling. We encourage you to take advantage of the new recycling program and be a part of making a positive impact on the environment.

The benefit of recycling your polystyrene is that the collected material will go to an end user to repurpose the material into a new product. Although expanded polystyrene is picked up through the current waste management stream, there is no guarantee that the collected material is diverted from landfills.

Starting November 1, 2021 any expanded polystyrene placed at the curb on garbage bag day for Miller Waste pick up will be required to have a bag tag and included as part of the 3 bag limit for disposal.

To recycle your expanded polystyrene for free, you can drop it off at 87 Stewart Street on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The next recycling date is November 13, 2021.

Expanded polystyrene items that can be disposed of through this new recycling program include: rigid packaging for computers, electronic, appliances and toys. The material must be clean, dry and free of tape or stickers. Expanded polystyrene recycling will not be available for institutional, commercial or industrial customers at this time.

Any changes to the drop off schedule or service will be communicated by a Municipality of Meaford media release and on the Meaford Waste App. The Waste App. can be installed through the app store on Apple and Android devices, or you can sign up for notifications by email, text message, or phone call by visiting www.meaford.ca/waste.
