International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD)  is Thursday, August 31. IOAD is an annual global event that aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths.

It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have met with death or permanent injury because of drug overdose.

Grey Bruce Public Health will be holding a community breakfast barbecue and speaking event at the Farmers Market on August 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with remarks from Safe ‘N Sound Executive Director Annette Pedlar.

A community vigil will also take place at the M’Wikwedong Indigenous Friendship Centre from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on August 31.

On the evenings of Wednesday, Aug. 30, and Thursday, Aug. 31, Owen Sound City Hall will be illuminated with purple lighting in honour of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) on August 31.

More details about this day of awareness can be found on the Grey Bruce Public Health website.
