The Sydenham is pleased to announce that the driving of piles for the seven-storey condominium development in downtown Owen Sound has concluded today. The site will be cleaned up and the crane is expected to be disassembled and removed this week.
Bermingham Foundation Solutions, the company performing the work, has been on site since mid-October driving the piles on which this luxury development will be supported. The piles have been successfully driven to bedrock at depths of 36 to 47 metres. During this period, the entire downtown area has heard the thumping of the hammer as it drove the piles. To ensure that no other buildings or the adjacent 9th Street bridge was affected, The Sydenham performed a detailed pre-inspection of all properties and carefully monitored vibration levels throughout the pile driving process. Many business owners and residents have been excited by the prospect of what this development means to them in terms of increased business and activity coming to the downtown area. As has often been said, The Sydenham is a "game-changer" for Owen Sound's downtown core.
Ron Pirie, the developer of The Sydenham, and his team want to emphasize "We are very appreciative of the patience and support we have received from our neighbours as we have worked through this crucial stage of construction."
The Sydenham is a development of 32 luxury condominiums, each with access to the the historic Sydenham River. Of the 32 residences only 10 remain available wioth ccupancy anticipated beginning in mid-2016.
The site of the project is on the banks of the Sydenham River at the location of the former Todd's Sporting Goods building on 9th Street East as well as the former Lovelace Building on 1st Avenue East.
