Ontario Provincial Police LogoOn August 23, 2016 at approximately 3:36 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal collision on Southgate Sideroad 49, in the Township of Southgate, involving a motorcycle and a farm tractor.

Initial investigation revealed that a Suzuki 750 motorcycle travelling northbound on Southgate Sideroad 49 had crested a hill and collided with a 7N75 New Holland tractor pulling a forged wagon. The tractor had exited a private laneway and was crossing the road towards a field on the west side of the road when the collision occurred.

The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending Coroner. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin.

The driver of the tractor, a 46-year old Southgate man, suffered serious injuries and was transported via land ambulance to a Hamilton hospital.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is assisting the Grey County OPP with the investigation which is continuing.

Southgate Sideroad 49 between Southgate Rd. 4 and Hwy. 89 is expected to remain closed another half hour for the safety of emergency responders.
