Ontario Provincial Police LogoThe South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police is sending another fraud warning for residents of Southern Bruce County after receiving a report of a successful scam in the Municipality of Kincardine. The mystery shopper scam typically involves contact advising you've been selected for employment as a mystery shopper. Next, a cheque arrives with instructions on where to spend the money and where to file a "mystery shopper report" on the business.

A tech savvy con artist is able to create very convincing scams. Residents are asked to verify any unsolicited contact before they consider sending money. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it. Remember that you can't win a contest that you didn't enter in the first place; "If it seems too good to be true, it likely is".

Anyone interested in more information on fraud can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or check online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca/.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
