Members of the local media and other invited guests joined Bluewater District School Board representatives on Thursday, October 27, 2016 to observe the official ground breaking at the future build site for the new school in Hanover. Located on the east side of 18th Avenue between 6th and 1st Streets, the site will be home to the Grade 7 – 12 replacement facility for John Diefenbaker Senior School.
In addition to the symbolic act of turning the sod, the ceremony included remarks from Bluewater District School Board Chair Ron Motz and Director of Education Steve Blake who shared greetings sent by Minister of Education Mitzie Hunter.
"Today's ceremony marks a turning point as we prepare to usher in an exciting new era for public education in the Hanover area. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the future of John Diefenbaker Senior School with our partners and broader community," says Superintendent of Education Wendy Kolohon.
The new school, which is being funded through approximately 20.8 million dollars from the Ministry of Education's School Consolidation Capital program, is scheduled to open its doors to students in September 2018.
