Impaired driving by alcohol and/or drugs; seatbelt use; aggressive driving and distracted driving are behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users at risk.
Two serious motor vehicle collisions that occurred on Hwy. 6 & 10 between Chatsworth and Rockford (September 27th and October 14, 2016), have prompted Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to conduct focused patrols along that stretch of highway in an effort to educating the public about safe driving practices.
Between October 21 and November 4, 2016, officers dedicated a total of 32.25 hours to focused patrols in that 10km stretch of highway, resulting in 30 Provincial Offence Notices issued for various distracted and aggressive driving offences. In addition, one impaired driving offence was committed resulting in charges.
While Grey County OPP participate in focused enforcement campaigns throughout the year, officers enforce distracted driving and other traffic violations 365 days a year to ensure drivers choose safe behaviours while travelling on our roadways.
Police and the public need to work together to ensure that our roadways are the safest in the world.
