On Thursday January 19 th , 2017 at approximately 9:55 pm the Owen Sound Police Service received a call about a male and female arguing while in the area of 2nd Avenue and 6 th Street East.

Police attended the area however could not locate any disturbance. While police were still searching the area, a white pickup truck travelling southbound in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue East swerved into the oncoming path of a north bound police vehicle. The police officer was forced to take evasive measures to avoid a head on collision. The vehicle attempted to enter a residential laneway in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue East however after several failed attempts the male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot eastbound. The driver left the vehicle in gear when he abandoned it.

There were several other vehicles in the immediate vicinity who would have witnessed this occurrence.

Police pursued the male a short distance on foot to a residence in the area. The male was located hiding in the residence. The male was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. During the arrest the male displayed obvious signs of impairment by alcohol. The male has been additionally charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The male was returned to Owen Sound Police Service where he refused to provide samples of his breath to a certified breath technician.

While in custody the male party caused damage to the cell block he was being held in. The male faces the additional criminal charges of refuse to provide a breath sample, mischief, fail to comply with conditions of a recognizance and three counts of fail to comply with probation orders. The male also faces two charges of driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. The male party has been held pending a bail hearing later today.

Police believe that the initial call for the disturbance was in relation to a motor vehicle collision involving this male party. Police are requesting the other driver involved in the initial incident to contact police. Police are further requesting anyone who may have witnessed the initial incident or observed the sequence of events that followed to contact police.
