Owen Sound District Secondary School mathematics students, Sophie Bierer, Emily Brown,Malcolm Newton, Logan Vermilyea and  Jade Gilchrist, are Zone Champions for their exceptional performance in the Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Competition in November. Zone Champion certificates are awarded based on the combined scores of the top 5 students in the school for the contest.

OSDSS had 25 students write the CIMC which is a contest for grade 9 and 10 students. Four of the top five students scored in the top 25% of all contestants writing the contest. The fifth student missed this cut off by only 2 points. This is an outstanding

achievement given that more than 8000 students from all over the world participated in the CIMC.

OSDSS also had five students participate in the Canadian Senior Mathematics Competition (CSMC), for grade 11 and 12 students. The top contestant in the school for each contest is awarded a medal provided their score meets a certain cut off value. OSDSS students Emily Brown and Caleb Chappell won medals for the CIMC and CSMC respectively. The contests are administered by the Centre for Education for Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo. OSDSS students will participate in the Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests in February as well as the Euclid contest in April.
