Collisions 2016 Overview
- 540 total collisions in 2016
- 50 collisions involved injury
- No fatal collisions
- 9 collisions with pedestrians
- 5 collisions involving cyclists
Acting Inspector Fluney stated "While Owen Sound is in an area that receives a lot of snow and at times severe weather, the majority of our collisions occur when the weather is clear and the roads are dry. Almost 11% of the collisions can be linked to driver inattentiveness. Driver inattentiveness can be attributed to drivers simply not watching the road, failing to exercise care when reversing from a parked position and cell phone use while the vehicle operator is texting and driving"
The top ten intersections where collisions are occurring include eight intersections along the 10th Street corridor as well as 16th St East at 16th Avenue East and 16th Street East at 9th Avenue East.
All of the locations are high traffic volume areas where drivers should be exercising extra caution while approaching and making turns across two lanes of traffic.
A full report on the 2016 Collisions was made to the Owen Sound Police Service Board at the February public meeting. This presentation can be viewed on the Owen Sound Police Service website www.owensoundpolice.com.
