The second non-partisan Campaign School For Women in Bruce Grey Owen Sound is just days away, Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Bluewater Board of Education site in Chesley. With 2018, the municipal election year for local councils and school boards, this Campaign School For Women provides an opportunity for women to gain insight into the possibility and process of engaging in politics and making a difference locally.

The stage is set with keynote speaker, Brenda Halloran, former two-term mayor of Waterloo with a varied career and community service resume. The day also includes 4 sessions by experienced local presenters in the areas of running a successful campaign, using traditional and social media, public speaking and debating, and culminating with a question and answer discussion panel on topics such as the role of the trustee, team building, and others.

We have famous local heroes, Nellie McClung and Agnes Macphail, who set the course for women in Canada to engage, have a voice, and contribute to local communities in decision-making regarding not only women, but all. Canada ranks 35th in the world regarding the gender gap generally, below leader Iceland or countries such as Rwanda, France, New Zealand, while Canada ranks 50th out of 190 countries with 26% women in Parliament. There is much work to be done to narrow the gap to reflect that women make up 51% of Canada's population. The non-partisan Campaign School For Women in BGOS is a good place to begin.
