An impaired driver was stopped thanks to a passenger.
On October 29, 2017 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police received a traffic complaint after a male passenger inside a Dodge Caravan attempted to hand an open beer through the window to another driver on Hwy. 6 in Springmount in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
Police stopped the suspect vehicle on Hwy. 6 & 10 near Sunny Valley Road at which time they observed the front passenger move to the back seat.
Police suspected that the driver had been drinking alcohol. His passengers, a 48-year old female and a 17-year old male, both of Owen Sound, were intoxicated.
The driver was arrested for impaired driving after failing a road side breath test. He was transported to the Markdale OPP Detachment for further breath tests which he failed.
20-year old Andrew Panchyshyn of Owen Sound was charged with driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood. He was also issued Part III Summons for the Provincial Offences of - Novice Driver - having a Blood Alcohol Content (B.A.C.) Above Zero and Class G1 License Holder - Unaccompanied by a Qualified Driver.
The vehicle was impounded for seven (7) days and his licence was suspended for 90 days.
