This week the annual conference of the Ecological Famers of Ontario takes place at the Blue Mountains resort in Collingwood. As part of this event, Eat Local Grey Bruce will host a panel at its Owen Sound warehouse this Wednesday at 2:30 (396 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound). The event will lay out how the coop was created, premier a short movie that summarizes first rural development impacts on participating businesses and on consumers, and discuss future directions.
Eat Local Grey Bruce set out to address the lack of local food distribution infrastructure in our region, and to offer a more efficient mechanism for food producers to sell their products. Now, at the end of the first full delivery season, we have asked our producers and consumers how Eat Local has impacted their businesses and their lives. Through the support of a Carrot Cache grant, a 15-min movie was produced that demonstrates Eat Local's approach and presents interviews with producers on the impact of the coop, and on their hopes and dreams for the future.
"For me, Eat Local frees up my time to do more food production," says Greg Stewart, who was recently elected president of the coop. "Many producers have changed how their enterprises operate – whether it is packaging, new investments for season extension, or the development of totally new products. It is amazing!" Please join us for a panel with farmers from our region and across the province at our warehouse!
