The festivities of the holiday season are underway with many people attending gatherings with friends and families, their work parties, and concerts. We are pleased to announce the start of our annual Holiday R.I.D.E Program in Owen Sound.
The R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) is operated in part through special funding provided by MADD and will be operating from now until early 2018. The spot-check locations will be selected and set up at various times throughout the day, evening and early morning hours.
In 2016, the Owen Sound Police Service stopped more than 9,000 motorists and laid 19 criminal charges relating to drinking and driving. These charges were all preventable.
Two-hundred and two charges were laid for offences relating to the Highway Traffic Act.
We conduct R.I.D.E programs throughout the year, but enhance our efforts when the festivities of the holiday season begin.
That time is now. If you are drinking or have taken any substances that impairs your ability to operate a motor vehicle, then call or text a sober friend, family member or dial #TAXI from any mobile device.
If you see an impaired driver, always call 9-1-1. We wish you and your families a safe, healthy and happy holiday season.
