The Colpoy's Bay Women's Institute (CBWI) is pleased to announce that it has received a $150,000 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). On Sunday, local MPP Bill Walker met with members to formally congratulate them and present a plaque on behalf of OTF. Funds from the grant will be used to complete necessary structural improvements to the Colpoy's Bay Community Hall, making it more accessible in compliance with the "The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act".
"This grant is an investment in the Colpoy's Bay Women's Institute Hall which will provide structural renovations and improve accessibility, and ensure the sustainability of the facility, enhance community engagement and positively impact the lives of residents and visitors who utilize this very valuable community hub," said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.
There is something special about the Community Hall in the village of Colpoy's Bay. It began in 1927 when the co-founders of the local branch of the Women's Institute (WI) donated property and made financial contributions to build a Community Hall for the bustling village of Colpoy's Bay. This year marks the Hall's 91st Birthday!
Its membership is comprised of a group of 28 dynamic women, dedicated to continuing the history built by the women who came before them. Countless volunteer hours of WI members, and the community at large, have contributed to the many memorable activities. It has served as a community resource for education, celebration, and ceremony for more than four generations.
Its members are working hard to sustain their work through fundraising activities, supporting charitable organizations, and hosting educational awareness programs and live concerts. The Hall is also available for special community events and receptions. This spring, WI is in full swing, planning activities for the upcoming season in the Hall. Events include an Alzheimers' presentation May 1st at 2:00 p.m., the Annual Yard and Plant Sale on May 19th and the Christmas-in-July Craft Sale on July 21st.
A big "thank you" to everyone who has contributed to making this Hall a happening place for generations. Special thanks to Sarah Brown and the Accessibility Committee for their work in preparing and submitting the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant application.
