Bluewater District School Board is pleased to announce that, effective July 1, 2018, Alana Murray will be appointed as Director of Education. Since March 2017, Murray has been filling the position on an interim basis.
"Alana has shown outstanding leadership over the past year, and we are delighted to officially welcome her as our director," says Chair Ron Motz. "Our board has made many gains in recent months through Alana's unwavering support of the priorities of student achievement for all in literacy, numeracy, science, and technology, along with her strong focus on staff well-being, communication, and building community partnerships."
Since beginning her teaching career in 1982 at Chesley District High School, Murray has assumed a diverse portfolio of roles locally at both the school and system levels. These include serving as a department head, vice-principal, principal, and as a superintendent of education, where she was responsible for a group of elementary and secondary schools, while expanding her expertise in the areas of secondary education, special education, safe schools, student mental health, and leadership development.
"I look forward to continuing to work with a remarkable group of senior leaders to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for the students and families we serve in Bruce and Grey Counties," says Director of Education Alana Murray. "I am thankful to our Board of Trustees for the faith they have shown in me and the common vision of excellence we have established for the future, and to our exceptional staff across Bluewater for the work they do every day to make a positive difference in realizing that vision."
