Under new business in today's agenda at the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is a proposal for a floating inflatable aquatic park at Sauble Beach.

It will measure 26 metres by 62 metres and be located directly behind the Crowd Inn. From the map it appears to be about 60m offshore.

Local observers are concerned that there is no mention in the report of potential environmental impact, for example of chemicals during operations, maintenance and cleaning that could end up in the lake or on the beach.  They have also questioned whether the structure would need lights at night for the safety of boaters, and if those lights would interfere with star gazing.

Other locations for the parks run by the proposed company are located on small inland lakes or ponds or the sheltered west end of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie. Long-time residents suggest they cannot be compared to the western shore of Lake Huron where the powerful prevailing winds are from the west.

Some local residents concerned about safety at the beach are still advocating for a summer emergency services kiosk or lifeguards.

The report to council is presented by the Director Of Community Services, prepared by the Economic Development Officer and approved by the CAO. The Town stand to make $10,000 from the proposed deal.
