The Owen Sound Campus of Georgian College will mark Louis Riel Day on Friday, Nov. 14.

An event honouring this remarkable hero is being organized by the Aboriginal Services department and Heather Van Wyck, a second-year Early Childhood Education student of Métis heritage. She is also the Owen Sound Campus Aboriginal Student Peer Mentor or Niwijiagan, an Ojibway word meaning "my friend" and facilitator for Georgian Métis students with the Métis Student Solidarity Network.

Georgian College students, staff and members of local Aboriginal communities have all been invited to take part in the day's activities. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome ceremony including an opening prayer led by Senator Malcolm Dixon of the Great Lakes Métis Council and Métis Nation of Ontario.

Other Louis Riel Day events include:

- Harvest Breakfast - 9:30 a.m., Room 704.

- Workshop on Métis sash-weaving and friendship bracelets - 11 a.m., Library Foyer

- Viewing of the film Morning in the North West - The Voyageur Dynasty - 1 p.m., Room 703.
