CFUW PhotoAs part of celebrating 100 years as an organization in Canada, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) identified 100 women across Canada to be named as Notable Women. Judith Thomson of the Owen Sound CFUW was a recipient of this award, and travelled to Winnipeg in August to receive it at the Annual General Meeting of CFUW National.

At the regular meeting of the Owen Sound and Area CFUW on the evening of September 10, Judith Thomson was honoured by the club for her many contributions over the years. Lori Ker, Regional Director of CFUW, noted that Judith exemplifies the CFUW commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and the promotion of education and involvement in public affairs. Judy taught for 19 years at Georgian College in Owen Sound, and was awarded the position of Professor Emeritus of the College. Judy has been awarded Citizen of the Year by the City of Owen Sound and the Citizen’s Contribution to the Arts Award by the Grey Bruce Arts Council.

On September 10, the Owen Sound and Area CFUW also recognized Miriam (Mim) Cady for her many contributions to the organization. Mim Cady received the Sage Award for being the longest serving member of CFUW or an affilitate organization, with almost 60 years of very active involvement. Mim Cady was a founding member of CFUW Owen Sound.

Also celebrated at the meeting, were Margaret Cameron and Anne Kirkland, both past presidents of the club, for their exceptional contributions.
