Alex Ruff

- Hub staff (updated at 10:45 am)

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound has remained Tory blue, as Canada has stayed Liberal red.

Tara native Alex Ruff has received the torch from retiring MP Larry Miller who retired tonight after fifteen years as the riding's representative in Ottawa.

Ruff retired last November from the Canadian military with the rank of colonel, and ran consistently on that record of service since his nomination last April. He said he heard at the doors that constituents were most concerned about affordability and housing, and were tired of Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau's Liberals have a minority government with 157 seats, Conservatives 121, Bloc Quebecois 32, NDP 24, Greens 3, and 1 Independent – Jody Wilson-Raybould.

Ruff says he would love to see a Conservative government, but is ready to hear from his competitors and be a “strong, loud voice” for rural Canada, and all the people of the riding.

With 64.5% of the 89,114 eligible voters in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound casting a ballot, the unofficial results as of 10:45 a.m. were as follows:

Alex Ruff 46.2%
Michael Den Tandt 30%
Chris Stephen 11.6%
Danielle Valiquette 8.7%
Bill Townsend 3.0%
Dan Little 0.5%
