grey county monument
Grey Roots invites you to the unveiling of the Grey Monument taking place this Saturday, November 2. The Grey Monument in Moreston Heritage Village recognizes Grey County’s three local units that served in the First World War: the 31st Regiment and the 147th and 248th Battalions. Please join us in honouring those who answered our country’s call.

10:30 a.m.

  • Outdoor ceremony in Moreston Heritage Village

11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Grey Roots Theatre showing of They Shall Not Grow Old (2019 Peter Jackson colourized WWI footage) and Lest We Forget (1934 official Canadian government film of the war)
  • Light refreshments served in the Café/Foyer.
  • Workshops from History Matters Association on the Imperial War Graves and First World War medicine throughout Moreston Heritage Village

Centrally located in the Village, the monument serves as a dramatic reminder of the lasting impact the First World War had and continues to have on Grey County and the surrounding area. With no remaining veterans from this war, it is important to continue to share the ways in which it shaped our country.

Guests are invited to bring a small amount of water from ponds, streams or creeks on their property or nearby. This water will be used to bless the monument during the unveiling ceremony.

There is no cost to attend this event.

Thank you to Veteran’s Affairs, Sanderson Monuments, and our many donors for helping to support this meaningful community project.
