Safe ‘N Sound is encouraging Grey Bruce residents to bundle up and raise cold, hard cash for The Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk. This family-friendly event will support the homeless, hungry and hurting in our community by supporting Safe ‘N Sound. The WALK takes place on the evening of Saturday, February 22nd.
Safe ‘N Sound is a non-profit organization that provides day to day living support for those in need including meals, computer access, shower, telephone, crisis intervention, and access to emergency clothing and furniture. Over 7,000 meals were served last year. A residence support program is also available.
Teams of walkers will take to the streets to complete 2 or 5 km routes, starting and ending at Georgian Shores United Church. Event organizers hope to attract 150 to 200 walkers and through the walkers’ fundraising efforts, to raise $30,000 dollars to support the mission of Safe ‘N Sound.
For more information, to register or to volunteer visit CNOY.ORG. Those interested in making a difference in our community are urged to register and begin fundraising now.
“Our walk last year was a tremendous success. We hope to continue to built it into a major source of support for Safe ‘N Sound,” said Leon Frisch, Chair of the Board.
Coldest Night of the Year is a national event run in about 100 cities across Canada. It has proved to be a tremendous success in many communities providing critical support to local organizations helping the homeless and hungry.
“In addition to walkers, we need volunteers to help on the day of the event,” said Roevel Guzman, Executive Director.
Frisch noted that by walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter, while raising funds to aid the work of Safe ‘N Sound.
