The Owen Sound Police Service is currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the city Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday January 18th, a patrol officer was flagged down at the intersection of 8th Street East and 2nd Avenue East by the victims who had been robbed. The victims had met with a male that was known to them. The male then displayed a firearm in an alley area, took a substantial amount of cash from one of the victims and fled. The Criminal Investigation Branch attended and took over the investigation. Late Monday afternoon the male suspect was arrested by police and held in custody for bail hearing.
An 18-year-old Owen Sound man appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday morning on the following charges:
Robbery with a Firearm
Possession of Weapons Dangerous
Point Firearm
Failing to Comply with Probation (three counts)
He has been remanded into custody and will appear again in court on January 27th.
The cash taken and the firearm used in the offence have not been recovered. It is yet to be determined if the firearm involved was real or imitation. Police are also looking into the possible involvement of a second suspect.
