The Grey Bruce Health Unit has received the final test results for staff and residents at Brucelea Haven Long-Term Care Home located in Walkerton. The decision to test all residents and staff was made and testing was conducted over the past two weeks. It is with relief that all remaining tests of staff and residents for COVID-19 are negative.
Brucelea Haven Long-Term Care Home is no longer in outbreak, under the direction of the Ministry of Health, a single laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19 in a resident or staff member is considered a Confirmed COVID-19 Outbreak for a home. There were two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in staff members of Brucelea Haven Long-Term Care Home located in Walkerton.
There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Gateway Haven Long-Term Care Home located in Wiarton. Following ministry guidelines all staff and residents have also been tested in this home for COVID-19 and those results have also been negative.
“We are relieved to have all of the test results back and to know that at this time there were only two cases of COVID-19. Bruce County Council and staff will continue to provide excellent care in our long- term care homes and to do our best to keep COVID-19 at bay,” states Warden Mitch Twolan.
As per provincial regulation, when a single staff or resident in a long-term care / retirement home test positive for COVID-19, an outbreak is declared. As is also required by provincial regulation, all outbreaks are posted on the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s website:
