OwenSoundButton-page-0012Hello. My name is Graham Sanders, I am a Grade 13 member of West Hill Secondary School. When the Accommodation Review Committee discussion first presented itself back in December I was rather unconcerned at first. I told myself that it was something which did not concern me, as I am moving forward with my education after the end of this school year. However, I soon realized I cared much more about the result and I wasn't capable of sitting back and leaving my views unsaid.

I have listened to the ...

The twenty speakers ranged from a therapist and an urban planner, to school representatives on the Accommodation Review Committees, parents and retired educators. They had all come to last night's special meeting of the Bluewater District School Board to give their opinions to trustees about the Preliminary Final Report on the future of schools in the Owen Sound area.

But the clearest, most profound voices in the room without question were the youngest. The students and recent alumni spoke with wisdom, passion and their own vision of ...

KimLove-featureThank you for the opportunity to speak.

My name is Kimberley Love. I have been watching this Accommodation Review Process for the past few months. The youngest of my four children is a student at OSCVI. Full disclosure: she has been the student representative on the ARC Committee.

I've sat through several of the public meetings. And I've read through many more of the submissions online. As a mother, and as an educator ( I was on the part-time faculty of Wilfrid Laurier University prior to my return to Grey County) I can understand the concerns of parents who want the best possible opportunities for their children.

The choices we make here will impact not only our current students, and future students – but they are a signal to the world about our faith in the future of our community. Are we optimistic about the future of our community? Because our vision of our community will

westhillgymnasticsMy name is Jordan Daniels and I am a grade 12 French immersion student at West Hill Secondary School. I am currently West Hill's Students Council President, and am involved in many other school activities such as Link Crew, Announcements Crew, Prom Committee, and the West Hill gymnastics team. Coming into high school in grade 9, the thing I was most looking forward to was being introduced to new opportunities. I was excited to engage myself in clubs and teams, because that's what high school is all about. I am grateful for the experiences that I have received throughout my four years of high school, and can only hope that future generations will have the privilege to experience similar, or even better opportunities.

My biggest focus during my four years of high school has been my involvement with extracurricular activities. With the amalgamation of both high schools, the possibilities would be endless for new opportunities. Our

Regular Owen Sound City Council meetings happen about twenty times a year. In less than 50 hours, the decisions about our city are made, all in full view of the public and the Rogers television cameras. Politicians and community members alike take advantage of those few hours of free broadcast and streamed time to promote causes, concerns and...commercials?

Last night an international beauty products brand got a full twenty-plus minutes of promotion in our municipal council chamber, from start to end of a deputation about a charity walk.

The cause is a vital one without question - improving access to safe water, hygiene and toilets in the world's poorest communities is lifesaving work. Clearly the Mayor and councillors understand this because many of
