On September 15, 2020 at 7:37 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a possible missing wind surfer/paddle boarder in Lake Huron, near Lakeshore Boulevard and Sixth Street North, at Sauble Beach, ON.
Several witnesses on shore, reported seeing a lone wind surfer/paddle boarder, wearing a wetsuit, who appeared to be in distress, approximately 100 metres out from shore. This person did not appear to make it back to shore, but that has not been confirmed at this time. A land and water search was initiated.
OPP are being assisted at the scene by the two surrounding fire departments, South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, Saugeen Shores Fire Department, Bruce County Emergency Medical Services, as well as Joint Rescue Coordination Centre run by Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard.
An OPP helicopter and Grey Bruce OPP Marine Unit are also involved in the search for the missing wind surfer/paddle boarder.
The search was put on hold at the end of the day, Tuesday evening, but has resumed again on Wednesday morning, September 16th. Grey Bruce OPP are asking the public and vessels to avoid the area.
There have been no missing or overdue persons reported to OPP at this time.
