On Wednesday February 3rd at about 11:00 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision at 9th Street East and 3rd Avenue East in the city of Owen Sound. A 2009 Mazda 3 car struck a 67-year-old woman causing her to fall to the ground.
The woman was transported to Grey Bruce Health Services by paramedics, where she was treated for minor injuries and then released. Witnesses were able to provide the investigating officer evidence which led to the identity of the driver. The 47-year-old man was located at about 3:00 p.m. on the upper east side of Owen Sound where he was taken into custody.
The resident of Owen Sound was charged with Failure to Stop After Accident, contrary to the Criminal Code, as well as several offences under the Highway Traffic Act, including Drive Motor Vehicle - No Licence and Operate Unsafe Vehicle. The driver was also charged with Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on A Highway - No Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The male will make a court appearance to speak to these matters in March.
