The Owen Sound Police are pleased to announce the addition of four new members to their ranks of Auxiliary Constables.

Auxiliary Constables are regulated by the Minister of the Solicitor General, and are volunteers who receive training in various aspects of policing knowledge in order to act in support of the regular members of the Service. Auxiliary Constables do not carry firearms, and work under the supervision of a regular member to assist with tasks such as traffic direction and crowd management at special events, in coordinated searches for missing persons, accompanying regular members on patrol, and in community support events such as the Annual Christmas Auxiliary Food Drive.

The four new members, Travis Misner, Hannah Morden, Brock Nickel, and Thomas Sweeney were individually sworn in by Chief Craig Ambrose in a somewhat subdued, socially distanced ceremony last night in keeping with safe pandemic practices. Chief Ambrose advises “Our Auxiliary members are a very important part of our community policing strategy, and quite frankly for many of our special events, we couldn’t do it without them. It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm in our newest Auxiliary members. We look forward to getting them out into the community, particularly in the future when COVID restrictions begin to ease and we see a return to our many local community events.”

The addition of the four new members brings the Owen Sound Auxiliary Constable ranks to 17.
