A man is in custody and facing numerous charges.
A 32 year old Owen Sound man is in police custody after several investigations into criminal activity were concluded by the Owen Sound Police Service on this date.
The investigation determined that the man was responsible for attempting to break into the Heritage Place Mall on the evening of December 31, 2017. The accused broke a glass entry door and entered the mall however he did not gain access to any of the stores. In addition, the accused is also alleged to have a broken a window of a parked vehicle the previous day and stole power tools from a trailer that was parked in the area of the mall.
On January 12, 2018 the accused engaged in a crime spree. He is alleged to have committed a break and enter at an eastside restaurant. The accused fled the restaurant prior to obtaining property due to the audible alarm at the business. The accused then attended at an Owen Sound high school where he stole the keys to a motor vehicle from the owner's jacket pocket. The accused proceeded to locate and steal the person's vehicle. The accused utilized the stolen vehicle to drive to a Chatsworth area residence where he committed a residential break and enter. This matter was investigated by the Grey County O.P.P. The stolen vehicle was later recovered, unoccupied by the Owen Sound Police Service.
Later on January 12th, the accused returned to Owen Sound and confronted a man who was seated inside their vehicle. Unprovoked, the accused threw a brick through the car's window and attempted to punch the occupant in the face. Finally, the accused utilized cash stolen from a different motor vehicle to purchase a laptop at a local business.
The accused is charged as a result of the investigations with the following offences:
Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence (3 Counts)
Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Theft
Assault
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Possession of Proceeds of Crime
Mischief to Property (2 counts)
The accused is being held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
