On Saturday June 16th, 2018 just after 3 am., Owen Sound Police Service was advised of a motor vehicle collision in the 300 block of 8th Street West. The caller reported being woke by a loud bang. The caller looked outside and observed a vehicle that had collided with a second vehicle parked in a residential laneway. The caller provided police dispatch with the description of a male observed leaving the scene.

Police arrived quickly on scene and located the male less than a block away from the collision. Upon observing police the male fled on foot through backyards in the 700 and 800 blocks between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue West. Another call to police dispatch advising of a male party crawling out of a garbage dumpster assisted with the suspect being located and taken into custody.

The male party was transported to Owen Sound Police Service where breath tests were conducted. As a result of those tests, a 23 year old Tara man is now facing numerous charges including; impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, Fail to report accident, escape lawful custody and 2 counts of failing to comply with conditions of a probation order. The male will be in court to answer to those charges later this month.

The investigation of the collision found that the vehicle had been west bound on 8th Street West and drove into a retaining wall at the base of the cat walk in the 300 block. The disabled vehicle was then turned east bound and rolled into the vehicle parked in the residential laneway.
