On 20th of December 2018 at approximately 8:00 pm two drivers engaged in a road rage incident northbound along Eddie Sargent Parkway in the city of Owen Sound. The incident began when a white sedan was being followed too closely by a black SUV. The driver of the white vehicle began to engage the other driver by putting on his brakes and then speeding up, a process which was repeated several times. When the black vehicle tried to pass, the white vehicle swerved in front to prevent it resulting in the black vehicle entering an oncoming lane to get past. This manoeuvre caused an oncoming vehicle to have to move over. The black vehicle ultimately turned onto a side street and the white vehicle followed. Once on the side street, the driver of the white vehicle yelled and swore at the other driver, and then struck his vehicle into the black SUV. The driver of the white vehicle then left the scene. The white sedan returned shortly after and another verbal confrontation occurred before the sedan left for good.
Based on information obtained, Owen Sound Police have charged both drivers with Highway Traffic Act offences. The driver of the white sedan, a 20 year old Georgian Bluffs man, was charged with Careless Driving and Fail to Remain and must attend Traffic Court on 21st January 2018. The driver of the black SUV, a 52 year old Owen Sound man, was charged with Passing when roadway not clear.
