Owen Sound Police Service joins provincial “You Are Crime Prevention” campaign.
The Owen Sound Police Service has joined the crime prevention campaign spearheaded by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) which focuses on raising public awareness on how and what citizens can do to help build safer communities across Ontario.
Throughout the year, new information booklets developed by the OACP will be used to raise awareness about many types of crimes, including:
* Suspicious activities and why you need to be aware and alert
* Cannabis impairment and why making the wrong choices in the new era of legal cannabis can lead to tragic results
* Financial scams that continue to grow in both numbers and impact:
* Identity theft
* Bank and credit card fraud
* On-line scams
* Lottery scams
* “Phishing” email scams
* Auto insurance fraud
* “Porch Pirate” thefts, where on-line purchases are stolen after delivery to your property
“Our Service is committed to public safety and raising public awareness about the many forms of crime that can make our homes, neighbourhoods and communities unsafe. Crime happens in many forms and it can happen to anyone; and in any city. We are proud to join with other police services to promote crime prevention in Ontario.”
The Owen Sound Police Service will also be making available a new resource document designed by the OACP to raise awareness about the true nature of organized crime in Ontario and will be offering frequent updates on social media during the, ‘You Are Crime Prevention’ campaign.
