At approximately 8:42 p.m., on March 5, 2019, while responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex on Victoria Street in the Municipality of Meaford, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police noticed a vehicle being driven erratically around the parking lot. At one point, the vehicle drove towards the cruisers, nearly striking one of the officers who was standing near the cruiser.
When the vehicle came to a stop, officers noted that the lone driver showed signs of impairment. The driver attempted to conceal a part bottle of alcohol on his person when exiting his vehicle. The male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to the OPP Detachment for breath tests, which he failed. Test results indicated that he had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
James Richard Clement, 44-years old of the Municipality of Meaford, was charged with Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus). He was also charged with having liquor readily available under the Liquor Licence Act (LLA). He is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on March 21, 2019 to answer to the charges.
The vehicle was impounded and his driver's licence suspended.
