A motor vehicle collision leads to pedestrian going to hospital.

On Sunday morning just before 2:30am, a collision occurred in the 900 block of 2nd Ave East, Owen Sound. Members of the Owen Sound Police Service attended, as did Grey County Paramedic Services and the Owen Sound Fire Service.

A 28-year-old woman was crossing the street and in doing so walked into the path of a northbound vehicle. The impact of the collision required the Allenford woman to be transported to the Grey Bruce Health Services by paramedics, where she remains for observation with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation a roadside breath test was conducted on the driver of the Chev Equinox. Although the 16-year-old Owen Sound youth passed, he did have alcohol in his system. As a result, the male was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Young Person BAC Above Zero. The youth’s Driver’s Licence was also suspended for a period of 24 hours. The teenager was further charged with Person Under 19 years Consuming Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

The pedestrian was also charged in this incident with Pedestrian Fail to Use Crosswalk under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police would like to remind the public that it is a condition of the driver’s licence of every young driver, which means a driver under the age of 22 years, that their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level be zero while driving a motor vehicle on a highway.
