policecarThe Owen Sound Police were kept busy with several incidents and arrests on Tuesday:

Threats - A 43 year old Owen Sound man was arrested by police late Tuesday morning after making verbal threats to staff members of a lodging/care facility in Owen Sound. The male party was arrested without incident, charged with two counts of Uttering Threats. He was later released from custody and will be appearing in the Owen Sound Court of Justice on the 30th of January 2020 to answer to the charges.

Impaired – A 73 year old Owen Sound man was arrested by police for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and blowing over the legal limit of alcohol allowed in his blood. The arrest took place around 4 p.m. after the man drove his motor vehicle into a pillar in the 1100 block of 16th Avenue East. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident. The male party has been released from custody and is schedule to appear in the Owen Court on January 23rd, 2020.

Motor Vehicle Collision - Just after 6:00 p.m. police attended 8th Street and 9th Avenue East for a two motor vehicle collision. The driver of a 2013 Grey Ford F-150 cut off a 2013 Dodge Caravan as he attempted to make a turn off of 9th Avenue on to 8th Street East. Extensive front end damage to done to the Caravan. The 43 year old male driver of the Ford pick up truck was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. There were no injuries in the accident.

Assault – Just before 8:00 p.m. officers received a call with regards to an intoxicated female in the 1000 block of 2nd Avenue East who had spat on another party on the street. This female then continued on into the 900 block where she ended up having a physical altercation with another female who had just left a down town restaurant. A by stander seeing what was occurring intervene in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and when doing so the intoxicated female struck him on the head with a full beer bottle. Officers arrived to find this female walking out into traffic and attempting to open doors of vehicles stopped in traffic. As the officers arrested the 48-year-old female she lashed out attempting to scratch and bite them. She was taken into custody without injury to herself or the officers.

Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any serious injury. This female party is now scheduled to appear in court on February 6th, 2020 for the charges with Assault with a weapon, resist arrest and failing to comply with condition of her probation order.

Mischief – Officers just before midnight on Tuesday were called to the area of 1300 block of 3rd Avenue East with regards to two suspicious males. The parties were located by police a short distance away. Investigation revealed that they had damaged a residence after the male party that they were attending there to confront was not home. A 49-year-old and a 40 year were arrested without incident. The 49-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with Mischief, Trespass at Night, and for failing to compile with conditions of his probation and conditions of his previous release. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing on Wednesday morning. The 40-year-old was later released by police.

Attempt Break and Enter – at approximately 1:30 Wednesday morning officers were called to the area of the 1300 block of 8th Avenue West with regards to someone attempting to break in to the complainant’s home. Officers arrived to find that the culprit had fled to area on foot. Thankfully, the freshly fallen snow assisted the officers in their efforts and allowed tracking of the suspect to a neighbouring residence. When officers presented themselves at this location the 16-year-old suspect fled on foot taking the officers on a small foot pursuit before he was taken into custody. The teenager was later released into the care of a parent and will now appear in the Owen Sound Youth Court on various charges including attempt break and enter, mischief, and trespass at night.
