On January 22, 2020 just before 11:30 a.m. a lone male entered a downtown bank with his face concealed by a bandana, glasses and a hood. The man displayed a knife in a threatening manner to the teller and directed her to quickly place money into a bag. The man then fled the bank with an undisclosed quantity of cash.

Members of the Owen Sound Police Service Uniform Branch and Criminal Investigations Branch responded to the call and initiated an investigation. Numerous investigative techniques were utilized which resulted in the identification of a 34- year- old male from the Chatsworth area as being responsible for committing the robbery.

At approximately 2 p.m. police located and arrested the man on 2nd Avenue East. The accused was found in possession of the stolen cash as well as other items used to commit the bank robbery.

The accused is charged with Robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence and Possession of Proceeds of Crime. The accused will make a bail court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on January 23, 2020.

The Owen Sound Police Service would like to thank many of our community partners, including several local businesses, who provided video surveillance evidence to Detectives. This evidence was of great assistance in the timely identification and apprehension of the suspect and the subsequent recovery of the stolen cash.
