On January 27, 2019 at 1:13 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an open field area directly north of Peninsula Shores District School (PSDS) in Wiarton, South Bruce Peninsula. The caller reported that they had heard noises similar to a firearm and saw a person run away from the area, possibly with a firearm. OPP officers attended the scene and secured the school and set up containment of the surrounding area.

OPP resources including, OPP Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team were dispatched to assist in the investigation.

Prior to resources attending, Grey Bruce OPP were able to confirm that the noises heard by the caller were firecrackers and that no firearm was involved in the incident.

During the investigation Grey Bruce OPP worked collaboratively with PSDS to maintain the safety of the students and staff inside the school, as well as keeping parents and guardian apprised of the investigation.
