The Owen Sound Police were busy responding to several calls for service over the long weekend. Among these, officers arrested two motorists in separate incidents, one for being impaired by a drug and the other for impaired by alcohol.
On Friday early evening officers responded to the area of the Owen Sound Library after receiving a report from a 15-year-old female complainant of a male party in his vehicle who had displayed himself inappropriately. Officers attending located the 71-year-old male in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Further investigation revealed concern that this male party was impaired by a drug. He was arrested at the scene without incident. An Owen Sound Police Drug Recognition Officer completed a serious of tests with the male which confirmed his impairment. The male who resides in the Municipality of Meaford was charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle, Indecent Act as well for having Cannabis readily available to the driver.
On Saturday evening just before 8:00 p.m. the Owen Sound Police received information of a possible impaired driver entering the city. The vehicle was located in the 1000 block of 16th Street East. After an officer safely got the vehicle stopped, it was determined that the 27-year-old driver from Owen Sound was heavily under the influence of alcohol.
The male driver was arrested and taken to the Owen Sound Police Station at which time samples of his breath were taken by a breath technician. The tests revealed that the driver had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. His vehicle was immediately impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days. He is to make his appearance in court in July to answer to the charges of Impaired Operation and Blowing Over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
