fireworksThe Owen Sound Police have been receiving numerous calls regarding the discharging of fireworks within the City of Owen Sound. An Owen Sound City By-Law clearly sets out when, where and how fireworks may be discharged within the city limits.

Residents may discharge fireworks on their property on the following days;

The day recognized as Victoria Day
The day recognized as Canada Day
The day recognized as the Civic holiday (August)
The day recognized as labour day

Fireworks can also be discharged on private property outside of those dates after obtaining a valid permit.

Fireworks cannot be discharged between midnight and 7:00 pm

Only persons 18 years and older are permitted to possess and discharge fireworks.

Fireworks cannot be discharged on City property at any time.

Persons discharging fireworks contrary to the set by-law can face fines up to $300 plus costs.

Police are asking residents to be mindful of this information, and keep any fireworks discharge to the allowed dates and times.
