The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that they have named Ryan McGill as their new Head Coach and Derek King as his Assistant Coach.

McGill, 46 was most recently the Head Coach of the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League, his second stint with the team.

In his first stint as Head Coach of the Ice from 1997-2002 where he won two Western Hockey League Championships in 2000 and 2002, including a Memorial Cup with the Ice in 2002. Following his successful stay in Kootenay, Ryan served as the Head Coach of Quad City, Omaha and Hartford in the American League before spending two years as an Assistant Coach with the Calgary Flames in the NHL. McGill returned to Kootenay in 2012 as their Head Coach and was also the Assistant Coach of Team Canada's 2014 World Junior Under 20 Team. Ryan and his family currently reside in British Columbia.

attack-featThe Owen Sound Attack is announcing that Head Coach Greg Ireland has resigned to pursue a professional coaching opportunity. Ireland informed Attack General Manager Dale DeGray of his decision on Saturday.


“We’re losing a good coach, a good friend and a good person in Greg Ireland”, stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “Greg has done a wonderful job for us the last four season and we cannot thank him enough. We wish Greg, his wife Erin and two boys Jake and Brennan the absolute best in their new venture.”

attack-red-featureThe Owen Sound Attack is announcing that Assistant Coach Daniel Tkazcuk will not be returning for the 2015/2016 Ontario Hockey League Season and has joined the Kitchener Rangers coaching staff.

Tkazcuk, a Barrie resident joined the Attack in 2011/2012 as a skills coach, moving into a part-time assistant role in the following years.

“We wish Daniel and his family all the best in his new venture.”, stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “His experience as a player and knowledge that he provided our organization is much appreciated.”

attack-red-regularThe Ontario Hockey League today announced the regular season schedule of games for 2015-16.

The Owen Sound Attack will open their season on the road September 25th in Kitchener, before hosting Guelph on the 26th for their 2015/2016 home opener. A full list of Attack special events, raincheck nights and team skates will be released at a later date.

Divisional alignment remains the same for 2015-16 with all teams playing interdivisional rivals a minimum of six times including three games at home and three on the road, while teams will continue to play a minimum of one home and one road matchup against all 19 other clubs.

Chris Bigras Named to OHL First All-Star Team

Red Tilson Trophy winner and top NHL Draft prospect Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters headlines the 1st All-Star Team at centre, joined by the London Knights' 100-point duo of NHL Draft eligible Mitchell Marner and Arizona Coyotes prospect Max Domi on the wings. Defenceman of the Year and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Anthony DeAngelo of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is joined by Colorado Avalanche prospect Chris Bigras of the Owen Sound Attack with 1st All-Star Team honours on defence. Also earning 1st All-Star Team honours is OHL Goaltender of the Year Lucas Peressini of the Kingston Frontenacs, and OHL Coach of the Year Sheldon Keefe of the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds lead the way with a total of four representatives including Keefe and DeAngelo, along with Edmonton Oilers prospect Darnell Nurse who was named a 2nd All-Star Team defenceman, and Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sergey Tolchinsky who was named to the 3rd Team at right wing. The OHL Champion Oshawa Generals and finalist Erie Otters were each represented three times
