"Fighting with indomitable spirits", KT Tae Kwon Do competed with over 600 other athletes in the KPNP Open Taekwondo Championship at the Markham Pan Am Centre on Saturday, January 25. KT (Kim-Thibodeau) Tae Kwon Do sent two athletes to their first tournament: 1st Dan Black Belt Instructors Rick Thibodeau and Remington Dosman, and both returned with medals.
Instructor Rick placed gold in poomsae (patterns) and instructor Remington placed silver in poomsae.
In the gold medal kyorugi (sparring) match, Instructor Rick faced off against a 4th Dan Black Belt Master. Competing against a superior opponent, Instructor Rick gained advantages with his strength and competitive knowledge. During the fourth (overtime) round, Instructor Rick took the gold with a speed roundhouse kick!
Proud Franco-Ontarian Instructor Remington faced a Québécois athlete in his gold medal kyorugi match. Fighting with a flurry of spin kicks and shadow kicks, Instructor Remington narrowly missed the gold, taking home silver for KT Tae Kwon Do. Instructor Remington is also affiliated with White Dragon Taekwondo (Durham) and Phoenix Performance (Mount Forest).
A special gold medal was presented to Instructor Remington for the best 18+ black belt fighter on account of his jumping 360 degree back spin kicks and match control.
These athletes were coached by 5th Dan Black Belt Master Jason Kim and 7th Dan Black Belt Grand Master Joe Kim.
The KT (Kim-Thibodeau) Tae Kwon Do family is proud of their two athletes and look forward to future competitions with more KT TKD athletes
Special thanks to Darryl Thunstrom, KT Tae Kwon Do student, for his videography.
