The Owen Sound Police Service's Criminal Investigation Branch is currently investigating an incident where an east side residence had a projectile shot through a front window, believed to have come from an unknown type of firearm.
The incident is believed to have occurred shortly after midnight on August 04th, though the incident was not reported to police until the following evening of August 04th. For the second time, Owen Sound Police are jumping into action to host the 2nd Annual Skate Park Jam at the Kiwanis Sk8 & Bike Park in Owen Sound. The free event, sponsored by the Owen Sound Police Association and Canadian Tire is open to all ages and skill levels for those who want to show off their tricks on a skateboard, scooter or bike. This year's event includes free prizes and giveaways donated by Canadian Tire, Vertical, TOMS, Vans, Volcom and many others. Local musical hero Richard Laviolette returns to Owen Sound for a concert at the River Café, August 15th at 7:30pm -- suggested donation $10. Laviolette was raised on music and never kicked the habit. As the child of a prominent Grey-Bruce musical duo Darrell and Marie Laviolette, his childhood was steeped in country music played at family gatherings and local jamborees. Laviolette's own musical career sprouted out of the Guelph music scene and is marked by near constant collaboration and experimentation, spanning genres from folk, to country, and rock and roll.

Recently, in the middle of a busy activity, a woman started to tell me about a vitriolic email that she received. She jumped in quickly summarizing the list of criticisms of the program and the angry words. When I simply nodded, she demanded, "Say something."
I could have just said, "You're right; that's terrible," but that would not have shown compassion or understanding. Also, in her quick summary, I sympathized with some of the content she mentioned although not the tone.
