The Georgian Bay Folk Society is releasing the performer lineup for the 41st annual Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival. Every day until March 31st the Folk Society will announce one of the acts to appear on the stages of Summerfolk 41 at Kelso Beach in Owen Sound, August 19-21.

RoomWith Oscar buzz and award season in full swing, join other film buffs for a whole weekend of films at the annual Owen Sound's Reel Festival. This weekend the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, in conjunction with the Toronto International Film Festival Film Circuit, presents the 14th Annual Reel Festival. Our programme is exciting and engaging, featuring selections of independent film from Canada and around the world – with something for everyone.

We've got Canadian political satire at its best with director Philippe Falardeau's My Internship in Canada, a witty take on the wheeling and dealing that can only take place in our nation's capital. mortonOwen Sound Artists' Co-op presents "the Tree show" in the Legacy Gallery for the month of March 2016. In association with The Extraordinary Tree Project, this exhibition features selected artists from Grey and Bruce Counties whose work is inspired by, involves or reflects a relationship with trees.

"According to Valentine" - a short indie film shot locally – will premiere at Heartwood Concert Hall this Saturday, February 6.

The film is adapted from the award-winning play "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre", which Christopher McGruer directed as part of an Owen Sound Little Theatre night of one-act plays in 2012. McGruer sent a letter to the playwright Allan Knee to ask for permission to adapt the play for film, because "if I were a writer in my New York apartment, I would like to get a real letter in a real envelope." The reply, a clear green light, came by return mail in less than a week.

Although he considers himself primarily a writer, McGruer says he is curious about everything. He read everything he could find about film and filmmaking and knew he wanted to direct. "Film is a director's medium – you decide how the story is told, and the more you learn, the more you have to work with."
