tttrail-featureCity officials would like to report that the Tom Thomson trail will be closed to all users from the south limit of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (2050 3rd Avenue East) to the north limit of the Water Treatment Plant (2650 3rd Avenue East) beginning September 17, 2015 and is to reopen September 30, 2015.

This closure is taking place to facilitate the reconstruction of the existing trail.

Snow and ice may seem far away today, but they were on council's mind last night.
Director of Operations Ken Becking delivered his winter road review and recommendations for the 2015-16 season and beyond.

 

It appears that Owen Sound is delivering a level of service in winter maintenance "well in excess" of its own policies, and bringing us in line with provincial standards and accepted practices will have several benefits. The report's six recommendations could result in as much as $300,000 in savings per year, depending on the severity of the winter, as well as reducing the negative environmental effects of excess road salt.

lockcar-regThe Owen Sound Police Service is once again reminding people to lock their vehicles after numerous thefts were reported Monday morning.

At least ten vehicles were reported to have been entered overnight between the 800 block of 3rd Avenue West to the 1600 block of 5th Avenue West. Wallets, cell phones and money were taken. In each case the vehicle had been left unlocked.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call Constable Liza Wild at 519-376-1234 ext. 145, or Crimestoppers.

The Owen Sound Police Service is reminding motorists that the streets and sidewalks will once again be busy with students travelling to and from school. Students may not always be focusing on traffic safety and motorists are encouraged to slow down and be extra cautious.

Drivers are also reminded that school buses and crossing guards will be back on our roadways. Remain alert and be prepared to make unanticipated stops. Failing to stop for a crossing guard displaying a portable stop sign carries a fine of $180.00 and three

demerit points. (The fine doubles if in a designated "Community Safety Zone"). Not stopping for a school bus with red lights activated carries a fine of...

city block regCity officials would like to remind the public that the following reconstruction projects will be continuing into Fall 2015:

· 8th Street East is closed to through traffic between 4th Avenue East and 8th Avenue East.

This closure will continue to be in effect into November 2015.

The pedestrian detour will continue to be in effect with crossing guards posted at the intersection of 8th Street East and 8th Avenue East as well as the intersection of 7th Street 'A' East and 8th Avenue East.

· 3rd Avenue East (Grey Rd. 15) is closed to through traffic between 18th Street East and East Bayshore Road.
