The City of Owen Sound held a public meeting and received a technical report this evening about a 6 storey apartment building with 40 affordable residential units opposite the City bus terminal.
The proect is being undertaken by Lutheran Social Services, who currently own and operate St. Francis Place, a 78 unit building right around the corner on 10th Street, Corbet Place, a 24 unit Life Lease condo building, and a four unit transitional housing building.
This new housing - replacing two small older buildings - will be for people 65 and older, in severe core housing need (that is, currently spending more than 50% of their income on shelter), selected from Grey County’s waiting list for subsidized housing.
A grant from CMHC (Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation) and $3 million from Grey County will be the foundation of the project's funding.
