seniorsGeorgian College faculty and students will engage in an interactive elder abuse workshop on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.

Participating students and faculty are from numerous Owen Sound Campus programs, including Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Police Foundations, Office Administration, Law Clerk and Business. In total, 175 Georgian College students will be participating. Main event sponsors are the Owen Sound Attack hockey organization and the Georgian College Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.

This event is an interdisciplinary workshop intended to encourage collaboration between professions in a "United Front Against Elder Abuse" (the name of the workshop). It also prepares future Georgian College graduates to prevent elder abuse and to assist victims.

Georgian College instructor Maurice Azzano will act as master of ceremonies. Guest speakers include Registered Practical Nurse Teresa Tibbo of Parkview Manor and Constable Craig Peddle of the Owen Sound Police Service.

Victim Services Bruce/Grey/Perth and the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce will also take part. Note - this workshop is not open to the public.
